Eagle Project Packet

The Eagle Packet Consists of:

Eagle Scout Application

  • 2004, or later revision printing. Required in original and 3 copies
  • Read all instructions carefully
  • Print or type the information legibly
  • When entering all dates, be sure to enter month, day, and year (two digits each, 12/06/01 for example)
  • List only the 21 merit badges that are required. For numbers 6 and 9, cross those not earned. If any of those crossed off were earned, they can be entered in numbers 13 through 21, or later, on an Eagle Palm application.
  • Enter optional merit badges (numbers 13 through 21) in the order in which they were earned to satisfy Star, Life and Eagle.
  • Do not enter merit badges earned later on because they "look better". This can cause problems when the Star and Life dates are verified.
  • For requirement No. 4, list only the position(s) served actively for six months or more after the Life Board of Review date.

Eagle Service Project Workbook

  • Original and 3 copies, all signed by the project beneficiary representative, the Scoutmaster or Crew Advisor, the Unit’s Committee Chairperson, and the District Advancement Chairperson.
  • Make sure it is completely filled out and that you use the official South Florida Council format.
  • Your Project Workbook is a narrative description of your Eagle Service Project that should show, beyond question, that you personally planned, developed, and gave LEADERSHIP to others.
  • It should be typed, with good grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Photos and/or drawings may be pasted, attached or merged. Color illustrations in the original do not have to be reproduced, in color, for the 3 copies

Here are some suggestions on what to include in the narrative:

  1. What was accomplished?
  2. How were things done? When?
  3. What plans that you had made did not work? Why? What changes in your operation did you then have to make?
  4. Who worked on what, in what capacity, and how many hours did each spend? (Give actual names of the workers, including adults or youth, whether Scouts or not)
  5. What materials, if any, were used? What were the actual costs involved? Who paid for these costs or were they donated and by who?
  6. What kind of things did you do to assure the safety of the workers? Were there any accidents?
  7. How did YOU demonstrate leadership?
  8. What did you personally learn from this experience?
  9. What are your total hours, from the planning stages, through your final written Eagle Service Project Report?

Statement of Ambition and Life Purpose

This is the first part of requirement No. 6 in the application. This is a write-up (at least one page) in original and 3 copies, of what you plan to do with your life. What interests you, what you might want to study, what professions you may wish to pursue, what hobbies you think will follow you, etc.

List of Leadership positions, Honors, Awards

This is the second part of requirement No. 6 in the application. This is a list (at least a half-page) in original and 3 copies, where you mention all your leadership positions, honors and awards both, in and out of Scouting. Faith based groups, academic organizations, sport participation, and awards received, should all be listed.

Once you have become an Eagle Scout, here is some useful information to help you plan your Eagle Court of Honor:
  • 1. Get Publicity - send a press release to the local newspapers. Include a picture taken while you were working on the project. Send to the Miami Herald and all local community newspapers as well.
  • 2. Request Eagle Commendation Letters (see sample below):

Resources for further information:

Parents or Troops can have a flag or flags flown over the Capital on the day a Scout becomes an Eagle. There is a fee, because you are actually purchasing the flag. A flag flown in their name and honor over the Capital of the United States on the day they become an Eagle is a real honor and keep sake. The request for this honor needs to be made in a timely manner and a certificate will be issued as well.
